Glossary of some common terms:
BDSM – An acronym for Bondage, Discipline/Dominace, submission/Sadism, Masochism. A term used for all Kinky relationships/interactions
Power – the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events
Control – to have power over (something/someone), to direct the behavior of (a person or animal) : to cause (a person or animal) to do what you want. : to direct the actions or function of (something/someone) : to cause (something/someone) to act or function in a certain way.
RACK, SSC, PRICK – Risk Aware Consensual Kink, Safe Sane and Consensual, Personal Responsibility In Consensual Kink – All terms used to help promote awareness of the importance of consent in BDSM activities.
Violence- behavior involving physical or emotional force intended to harm, damage, or kill someone or something
Harm- causing LASTING physical or emotional pain or injury
Hurt- causing physical or emotional pain or injury
Consent- Active and enthusiastic agreement to activities or behavior agreed to by those involved to a scene/play and/or relationships
Boundaries – Refers to limits negotiated by either parties and communicated prior to a scene or play. Sometimes one partner push boundaries if the other partner is still receptive and consenting at the boundary point.
Leather – a cultural identity rooted in BDSM and LGBTQ+ subcultures
RED FLAGS – signs of risk and danger that can warm someone of potential abuse or pending harm
